Why PULSE?
An academic path in Germany offers international students great opportunities, but it also comes with challenges. PULSE supports selected international talents before, during, and after their master’s or doctoral studies at LMU Munich in the master’s programs in Epidemiology and Public Health, as well as in the Ph.D. program in Medical Research in Epidemiology and Public Health. PULSE participants benefit from personalized counseling, academic mentoring, welcome and onboarding programs, career development support, specialized German language courses for healthcare professions, networking opportunities, and access to excellent research and innovation environments. PULSE is aimed at ambitious students and future researchers who wish to contribute to solving health issues through public health, epidemiology, data science, and artificial intelligence, and who want to help shape the health systems and health sciences of tomorrow.
Academic Focus: Public Health, Epidemiology, AI, and Data Science
PULSE combines excellent training in public health and epidemiology with expertise in AI and data science. As a complement to both master’s programs and the Ph.D. program, the program prepares international talent to develop data-driven solutions to health challenges—ranging from basic epidemiological research, evidence-based health promotion and prevention, and health services research to digital transformation and policy consulting.
The Chair of Public Health and Health Services Research at the IBE is a WHO Collaborating Center for Evidence-based Public Health and supports the WHO, in particular, in the evidence-based development and implementation of guidelines on public health and health system issues.
We, as researchers in epidemiology and public health, want to bring about change in society, both nationally and globally. This requires a thirst for knowledge, sound methods, and a human touch.
