The evaluation of your dissertation

At least two reviews and four expert opinions will be obtained for your dissertation.

Researcher at the computer.

Each dissertation is evaluated by a total of 6 experts:

  • 1st evaluation: is prepared by the doctoral supervisor
  • 2nd evaluation: the doctoral committee selects another member for your doctoral committee, who holds a Dr. rer. nat.
  • 4 expert opinions: the doctoral committee obtains four expert opinions on your dissertation
  • The dissertation is accepted if the reviews and expert opinions each suggest a grade of “rite” = 3 (sufficient) or better.
  • The dissertation may be returned once by the doctoral committee for a revision.
  • As soon as all reviews and statements are available, you will be informed by the doctoral office.

The evaluation period

The evaluation period is usually approx. 6-8 months. We ask for your understanding that the evaluation period may take longer depending on the reviewers.
We will inform you as soon as the evaluation has been completed. Unfortunately, we are unable to answer questions about the status of the evaluation process for reasons of capacity.
