Teaching authorization (Venia legendi)

Once your teaching qualification has been established, you can apply for teaching authorization in your field of expertise.

How to apply for your teaching authorization:

  • Once you have received your habilitation certificate with teaching qualification for a specific field of expertise, you can apply for teaching authorization for that field.

You must enclose the following documents with your application:

  • Application for teaching authorization to the president of LMU (PDF, 904 KB)
  • Questionnaire regarding loyalty to the Constitution, citizenship, and ties to the Church of Scientology (available for download from the LMU Form Center, Section F)
  • Current curriculum vitae, dated and signed
  • Certified copies or certified copies of supporting documents:
    • University degree certificate (diploma or equivalent certificate or certificate of medical/dental examination)
    • If the habilitation has been applied for in a subject that requires a medical or dental license: License certificate and proof of recognition as a specialist and, if applicable, any additional/specialist qualifications acquired.
    • doctoral degree certificate
    • Confirmation of receipt of the habilitation certificate

The Dean's Office will add the following documents to the application (you do not need to worry about this):

  • personnel form
  • Certified copy of the current employment contract or the currently valid letter of appointment
  • Copy of the habilitation certificate
  • Confirmation of receipt of the habilitation certificate

The application for teaching authorization is countersigned by the dean and forwarded to the president of LMU.

If the president approves the application, your teaching authorization certificate will be sent by mail. The enclosed confirmation of receipt must be returned to the dean's office immediately.

The title Privatdozentin or Privatdozent (Priv. Doz. or PD):

The granting of teaching authorization confers the right to use the title "Privatdozentin" or "Privatdozent" (Priv. Doz.), also known as private lecturer.
