Division of Metabolic Biochemistry
We investigate the cellular and molecular mechanisms of neurodegenerative diseases.
We investigate the cellular and molecular mechanisms of neurodegenerative diseases.
Our division is currently in a transition phase lasting several years, during which the leadership will pass from Professor Christian Haass to Professor Jonas Neher. Our joint research interests are the molecular causes of neurodegenerative diseases. In particular, we are investigating how the immune system on the one hand and vascular dysfunctions on the other hand drive Alzheimer's disease. Our aim is to develop new therapeutic strategies. To this end, we use interdisciplinary approaches ranging from biochemistry, molecular and cell biology to in vivo models and live imaging.
Our work is embedded in the Munich Cluster for Systems Neurology (SyNergy) . We are a partner institute of the German Center for Neurodegenerative Diseases (DZNE) .
