Emission of CO2 equivalents by different sectors in Germany in 2022.
The transport sector is the third largest emitter of greenhouse gases in Germany. In 2022, transport and mobility emitted 147 million tons of CO₂ equivalents which sums up to about 20% of total emissions.
Emissions in the transport sector increased by 2% in 2022 compared to 2021. While emissions from trucks and buses fell by almost 2 million tons of CO₂ equivalents, emissions from cars and light commercial vehicles rose by around 4.5 million tons. Following the drastic declines caused by the pandemic, emissions from domestic flights also increased significantly.
Eco-friendly mobility can thus make a relevant contribution to climate protection.
