About the TRPM7 Endowment Fund
We are pleased to confirm the establishment of the donation cost center known as the "TRPM7 Endowment Fund at LMU Munich." This fund is initiated with a generous donation from Ms. Burcu Tuncel and Mr. Mete Tuncel.
Purpose of the Fund
The endowment fund is part of LMU Munich’s corporate assets and is designated for basic and preclinical research on the TRPM7 gene at the Walther Straub Institute of Pharmacology and Toxicology at LMU. The goal is to enhance molecular diagnostics and develop treatment options for diseases associated with TRPM7. These diseases, caused by mutations in the TRPM7 gene, represent a newly discovered group of human ailments.
Research Focus
Current research by Prof. Dr. Thomas Gudermann and Dr. Vladimir Chubanov aims to understand the etiology and pathomechanisms of diseases caused by TRPM7 mutations. By fostering collaboration among researchers, clinics, and patients, we aim to improve the chances of curing patients with TRPM7 mutations.
Use of Funds
The available funds of the endowment will cover:
- Consumables (reagents and laboratory supplies) and other research-related costs
- Small laboratory equipment items (e.g., pipettes, electrophoresis chambers, bench centrifuges)
- Larger laboratory equipment items (e.g., electrophysiology equipment)
- Licenses for relevant scientific software
- Publication costs in scientific journals
- Participation in relevant scientific conferences to report results
- Scholarships for doctoral and postdoctoral researchers
The institute's board of the Walther Straub Institute of Pharmacology and Toxicology manages the use of funds. If the specified purpose is no longer pursued or the institute ceases to exist, the medical faculty of LMU Munich will be the recipient of the funds.
