Admission requirements and pre-doctoral exam (until Sept 30, 2018)

The admission requirements for a doctor in Human Biology under the old regulations are a relevant university degree, at least two years of academic work with your supervisor and proof of having passed the pre-doctoral examination.

Admission requirements (until September 30, 2018)

  • The registration must have been submitted to the doctoral office by September 30, 2018
  • The certificate of a Master's degree or an equivalent degree
  • or a certificate that you have passed the veterinary examination, the first state examination in law, the first state examination for food chemists or the pharmaceutical examination
  • If you have not completed your diploma, Master's degree or state examination in Germany, you must also provide proof the equivalency of your degree when applying.
  • a certified translation of the certificate for foreign degrees
  • Proof of the start/completion of two years of academic work with your supervisor
  • the passed pre-doctoral examination

The pre-doctoral examination

Please enclose the following documents with your application for admission to the preliminary doctoral examination:

  • a curriculum vitae in tabular form
  • a certified copy of the certificate
  • a certified translation of the certificate for foreign degrees
  • Proof of the start/completion of the required two years of academic work

The procedure for the pre-doctoral examination

  • The preliminary doctoral examination is an oral examination
  • The doctoral committee appoints the exam chair
  • The examiners will inform you of the examination topics at least 8 weeks before the examination. You can also ask the examiners directly about the examination subjects.
  • For graduates of universities of applied sciences with a diploma, the subjects chosen by the doctoral candidates are taken into account when determining the examination topics and your work
  • Immediately after the preliminary doctoral examination, the three examiners will decide whether you will be admitted to the doctoral degree and inform you of the result.
