An adjunct professorship (apl. Prof.) can be awarded upon application to scientists who have demonstrably made outstanding contributions to research and teaching. An adjunct professorship alone does not establish an employment relationship.
At the request of the Faculty Council, the President of LMU Munich may appoint Privatdozentinnen and Privatdozentinnen to the position of Adjunct Professor after at least six years of service as a university lecturer, the majority of which should have been at LMU Munich. In exceptional cases, the six-year period can be shortened to up to four years in the case of exceptional academic achievements.
The appointment as an adjunct professor can only be made in the subject area of the teaching authorization granted.
The Privatdozent cannot apply for appointment as an adjunct professor himself or herself. Only the Faculty Council is entitled to submit an application. A procedure may only be initiated at the request of the responsible subject representative of the Faculty of Medicine at LMU Munich. The dean decides on exceptions in consultation with the standing committee.
You can find detailed information on the appointment as an adjunct professor in the information sheet.
