The actin cytoskeleton of non-muscle cells is essential for cellular structure, and the dynamic regulation of actin is a prerequisite for motility. To explore the principles and mechanisms of actin cytoskeletal dynamics we are using mammalian cell lines and the model organism Dictyostelium discoideum. We employ methods from cell biology and biochemistry in combination with in vivo imaging to elucidate the molecular basis of fundamental actin-based processes that are crucial for cell motility, subcellular organization, and cellular integrity.
