Seminar Immunology I (winter term) and Seminar Immunology II (summer term) (7C0713)

These seminar deal with the biological basis of immunity and how we know about it from experiments. By looking at classical and current publications following the topics of the Immunology I and II lectures, the central concepts of Immunology will be introduced. The class requires reading of several papers per week and the preparation of summaries, abstracts and flow charts. The purpose is to give students an in-depth perspective of the material covered in the lectures.

For students of Master programs in Biology, Biochemistry (3 ECTS) and students of Medicine (Wahlfach im 1. Studienabschnitt). Credit will not be awarded if absent from more than two seminars, and if more than two assignments are incomplete.

Seminar: Immunological Tolerance (7C0725)

The adaptive immune system can recognize an unlimited array of molecular structures but omits the host. This unresponsivenes to the molecular self is a key feature of adaptive immunity and named immunological tolerance. The students will look at and present key papers that have dissected it.

Gene regulation in lymphocytes is a central aspect of the adaptive immune response. The seminar's aim is to understand molecular mechanisms that control lymphocyte function and find out how, more generally, current methodology can address open questions in immunology. The participants will search for publications, discuss and present them.
