Teaching: Immunology

The Institute for Immunology offers classes in lectures, seminars and a practical course to assist students in understanding the basic concepts, central technologies and key experiments of the rapidly developing field of immunology, educate about the relevance of the immune system to health and disease, support critical thinking and creativity to do research in immunology, offer training and research opportunities to successfully conduct masters and PhD work and to pursue immunological research careers in academia and industry.

Courses in Immunology

The curriculum is open to students in the Masters Programs in Biology and Biochemistry. It consists of

  • the Lecture Immunology I (7C0731, 3 ECTS; Immunology II will be taught in the Sommersemester),
  • the accompanying Seminar Immunology I (7C0713, 3 ECTS)
  • Additional seminars (3 ECTS) on focused topics like Immunological Tolerance (L. Klein, 7C0725), Gene Regulation in the Adaptive Immune System (V. Heissmeyer, 7C0735), Immunological Memory (R. Obst, 7C0727) and Immunology Classics (R. Obst, 7C0752)
  • Practical Course Immunology (7C0709/19248) a 3-week practical course which introduces methods of cellular and molecular immunology (flow cytometry, lymphocyte proliferation, cytotoxicity, effector functions, antibody labeling, immuneperoxidase staining, ELISA, Western blot). Successful completion of the Lecture Immunology I or II exam is prerequisite. (6 ECTS, only offered in the winter semester)
