The Biomedical Center bridges the gap between basic research and clinical application
The Biomedical Center (BMC) was opened in 2015 on the Großhadern/Martinsried campus. It combines preclinical, clinical-theoretical and clinical chairs and institutes of the Faculty of Medicine and bridges the gap between basic research and clinical application.

The research consortium BMC AG was founded at the Biomedical Center. Eight divisions and institutes of the Faculty of Medicine and further associated members have joined forces in this consortium. Their common goal is interdisciplinary research into fundamental and applied aspects of biomedicine. To this end, the BMC AG jointly operates six Core Facilities and several science-supporting service facilities. The close cooperation creates synergies at various levels and frees up resources for research and teaching.
The BMC AG includes all professors and heads of independent research groups at the eight founding divisions as well as the heads of the Core Facilities. Further members are close collaboration partners at other LMU institutions.
The Board of the BMC AG consists of the eight chairs and institute heads as well as four elected members. The Board elects a spokesperson (currently Prof. Peter Becker) and two deputies (currently Prof. Martin Kerschensteiner and Prof. Michael Kiebler) from its ranks.

Around 900 students start their medical studies in Munich every year. At the BMC, they learn important basics in the pre-clinical subjects. There are also courses in the field of immunology.
