Info campaign 2023 - Green Fact of the Month

What do we do?

Our aim is to reduce our ecological footprint in the laboratory and make our research more sustainable. To this end, we research and discuss, develop measures and strategies and implement them.

Examples of our measures are:

Reduce

  • Waste: Gloves and single-use platic ware
  • Energy consumption: Minimize switch-on times of devices, increase freezer set temperatures

Reuse

  • Tubes (for culture of Drosphila, bacteria etc.)
  • Staining solutions and buffers

Recycle

  • Waste separation improvement (recycling bins available in each room)
  • Recycling programs for PET, cool packs, pipet tip boxes

Create awareness

Our biggest project to date has been the certification of the divisions and institutes at the BMC by My Green Lab in 2023. Together we have reached the level Platinum and are working on becoming even greener.

Who are we?

The BMC Green Lab Initiative is a grassroots movement, founded and supported by committed BMC employees and backed by the BMC Board.

How can I take part?

From doctoral students to professors, from technical staff to administrative staff - everyone is welcome to join in. Contribute your own ideas or simply attend our meetings to get input.
Feel free to pass on the information and start your own Green Lab meetings in your divisions, departments and institutes!

Where and when do we meet?

We always meet on the first Wednesday of the month at 1 pm, usually virtually via Zoom. We are happy to share the link, just send an email to greenlab@bmc.med.lmu.de.
