Thorax under strain

Crash Injury Research

In injury mechanics (trauma biomechanics) and accident research, we develop accident data and human body models for scientific, industrial and forensic applications.

Computational Injury Mechanics

We develop and validate numerical models of the human body for analysing injury risks and injury-related processes. These are mainly finite element models for crash simulation.

Accident recording on site - GIDAS Munich

Accident Analysis

We investigate injuries and fatal accidents from all areas of life and work, such as road traffic, sport, the workplace and falls. In a working group with Hochschule München University of Applied Sciences and LMU Clinic, we collect data on road traffic accidents on site as part of GIDAS project (see link below). We analyse injury data and traces on vehicles and their surroundings with the aim of reconstructing causes of accidents and injuries.

Engineering Anthropometry

We collect data to measure the human body on the basis of medical imaging. We investigate the behaviour of the body under low-level loads as part of volunteer tests. Both are used in the development of numerical human models.

Forensic Biomechanics

We investigate the relationships between the effects of accidents and violence on the human body and the resulting consequences of injury (injury mechanisms). Our methods are used to clarify legal issues in forensic medicine, accident analysis and biomechanics.
