Steffen started his residency in pathology because he hadn´t finished his experimental doctorate thesis under the supervision of Andreas Jung when graduating from med school LMU. After some time, he liked it a lot and simply stuck with it. As a board certified pathologist, his main occupation is diagnostics, admiring the wide morphological spectrum of diseases, but he sometimes also enjoys pipetting if he can get some labtime. His main interests are the pathology of the hepatopancreaticobiliary system and the gastrointestinal tract. His research focuses on prognostic and predictive biomarkers and the biology of pancreatic cancer, biliary cancer and bladder cancer. Besides diagnostics and research, he enjoys riding all kinds of bikes, wintersports and spending time with his family.
