PI: Prof. Dr. med. Christian Schulz
Affiliation: University Hospital LMU Munich, Department of Medicine I – Cardiology, and Heidelberg University, Department of Immunpharmacology
Research Focus:
Dr. Schulz specializes in mechanisms of inflammation in cardiovascular diseases. He uses translational, genetic models to characterize the immune response and the behaviour of specific immune cells such as macrophages. This should lead to the development of new anti-inflammatory strategies.
Role in ICONLMU:
Dr. Schulz leads projects in the field of cardiovascular immunology. He develops and uses large animal models to research immunological and metabolic processes.
Key Areas of Work:
- Innate immune response in cardiovascular inflammatory processes and metabolic disorders
- Role of cardiac macrophages in heart failure
- Immunological characterization of large animal models
Techniques & Infrastructure:
- Flow cytometry and molecular analyses in the pig model (with Florian Jaudas)
- Clonal hematopoiesis in the pig model (with Eckhard Wolf)
- Perinatal immunology in the pig model (with Nikolai Klymiuk)
