AG Parzefall

Prof. Dr. med. vet. Andreas Parzefall

Affiliation: LMU Munich, Institute of Veterinary Pathology

Research Focus:
Prof. Parzefall’s group specializes in comparative pathology with a focus on cardiovascular and metabolic disease phenotyping in large animal models. His expertise supports disease characterization through microscopic evaluation and contributes to defining tissue-based endpoints in translational studies.

Role in ICON:
Prof. Parzefall supports ICON research by leading the histopathological evaluation of porcine models used across all research themes. He helps standardize tissue preparation, interpret disease phenotypes, and correlate imaging and molecular data with cellular findings.

Key Areas of Work:

  • Histological analysis of cardiovascular and endocrine pathology
  • Cross-species pathological comparison
  • Evaluation of tissue remodeling, inflammation, and degeneration

Techniques & Infrastructure:

  • Immunohistochemistry and quantitative histology
  • Digital pathology and annotation
  • Centralized tissue archiving and documentation
