AG Ishikawa-Ankerhold

PD Dr. rer. nat. Hellen Ishikawa-Ankerhold
Affiliation: University Hospital LMU Munich, Department of Medicine I – Cardiology

Research Focus:
Dr. Ishikawa-Ankerhold is an expert in high-resolution optical and biomedical imaging techniques. Her work centers on developing and applying advanced microscopy approaches to study immune cell behavior, vascular biology, and inflammation in living systems. She has significantly contributed to imaging workflows that capture dynamic cellular events in cardiovascular and inflammatory disease models.

Role in ICON:
Dr. Ishikawa-Ankerhold is a core contributor to the imaging infrastructure at ICON, particularly within Vascular Disease and Cardiac Disorders. She supports multiple projects with intravital microscopy, tissue clearing, and real-time imaging of leukocyte–endothelial interactions, thrombosis, and immune responses in large animal models.

Key Areas of Work:

  • Intravital microscopy in preclinical cardiovascular models
  • Visualization of immune cell migration, thrombus formation, and tissue perfusion
  • Development of 3D imaging workflows and tissue clearing protocols

Techniques & Infrastructure:

  • Multiphoton and confocal microscopy
  • Light sheet fluorescence microscopy (LSFM)
  • Quantitative image analysis of vascular and immune processes
