The MeCuM curriculum
Since 2002, the Medical Curriculum Munich (MeCuMLMU) has been offering professional training for doctors-to-be. The medical training at the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München:
- focuses on people and their illnesses,
- enables direct contact with patients right from the start of the course,
- deals with all aspects of the relationship between doctor and patient (including communication training, thanks to the newly developed communication curriculum)
- offers intensive, practice-oriented and practice-relevant training in general medicine-,
- leaves room for individual scientific qualification (MeCuM Science curriculum),
- and combines international quality standards in training with new forms of examination and individual offers.
Interdisciplinarity, practice-oriented and practice-relevant training and the integration of evidence-based medicine are the core elements of the curriculum. Stays abroad and an international orientation are promoted by the faculty through various outgoing programs
- Wide international network
- Specific career programs in research and clinical expertise (e.g. StEP, GAME TEI project)
- An international campus at home: international on-site summer and winter schools as well as online courses with students and faculty from LMU and universities abroad
- Teacher training programs
- Support of young researchers: Creation of a Research Curriculum for medical students in the first study year with specific interest in research
- One semester dedicated to research during the clinical studies
- Longitudinal integrated curricula that start in the preclinical years and accompany the students up to graduation in the following fields: communication, practical skills, patient-safety
- Early patient contact and interprofessional teaching for medical
students (Ilegra program) - Clinical Studies: E-Assessment, mid-term examinations and regular feedback-policy
- Peer-assisted learning and mentoring
