Short Term Clinical Internships
Mainly targeted towards students from our non-european partners.
Mainly targeted towards students from our non-european partners.
This program provides an opportunity for international medical students to undertake clinical rotations at LMU Munich, facilitated by the International Exchange Office of Medicine.
International undergraduate students who have completed a minimum of 3 years of a medical degree program are welcome to apply. Prospective applicants who have already graduated from medical school are not eligible to participate.
Please note that applicants are accepted by the academic clinical divisions of the LMU University Hospital Munich on a limited basis. Priority in scheduling electives is given to students from LMU partner universities. Program length is between four to twelve weeks.
Please note: Due to the currently high number of applicants from partner universities we anticipate that we will not be able to accept non-partner students in the foreseeable future.
Furthermore, we kindly ask students from partner universities who have not yet been nominated at LMU by their university to contact their International Office first and look into the possibility of a nomination via our exchange programs.

⇢ 8 months before elective start Application
All students who wish to visit the LMU University Hospital for a clinical elective need to apply no later than 8 months before the requested start date using the Visiting Student Application Service.
All applicants can only specify one clinical field.
Documents to be submitted:
Approval of the Federal Employment Agency
Internships in Germany relating to a degree course, even in the context of the Visiting Student Elective Program, require the approval of the Federal Employment Agency (Bundesagentur für Arbeit). LMU will obtain this approval for you.
Exception: You are a national of a Member State of the EU or one of the following countries: Iceland, Norway, Liechtenstein, Switzerland.
The following documents are needed for this purpose, which you hand in with your online application:
⇢ 3 months before elective startNotification
It takes several months to fully process applications and receive a response from departments. Students typically are notified of a decision 3 months prior to their requested elective dates.
⇢ 3 months before elective start
Medical certificate and in-house medical service
Following notification of an elective offer, you must submit the Visiting Student Immunization Record (Medical certificate) required by the LMU University Hospital Munich for all students participating in clinical rotations.
A certificate, completely filled in, is a necessary precondition for your deployment in the hospital and serves to protect both the student and the patient against infectious diseases. Your attention is drawn to the fact that a possible consequence of incomplete details or a lack of immune protection is that you will not be able to take up your deployment.
Extended Certificate of Good Conduct
(Only!) If you want to complete an internship in Pediatrics you will need to upload an Extended Certificate of Good Conduct with your application. This certificate must also be issued within 3 months before the beginning of your internship. We advise you to upload it together with the Medical Certificate.
