Rolf Becker Prize

The Faculty of Medicine and the fourndation Rufzeichen Gesundheit! in Baierbrunn award the Rolf Becker Prize for the best original work from the previous or current year in the field of experimental or clinical medicine as a result of a research project conducted at the Faculty of Medicine.

Call for tenders

The prize is awarded for the best original work from the previous year or the current year in the field of experimental or clinical medicine as the result of a research project from the Faculty of Medicine, LMU Munich. The work may also have been produced as a collaborative project with other institutions, but the lead responsibility must clearly lie with the submitting member or members of the Faculty of Medicine. The work must have been published in the previous year or the current year (date of print publication from January 1 2025) or currently accepted for publication; it may only be submitted once for consideration.

Frequency and endowment:

The prize is endowed with €50,000 and is awarded annually.

Target group:

Applications may be submitted by first, equal second, and/or senior authors. These will be awarded the Rolf Becker Prize and must be members of LMU Munich at the time of publication and at the time of application for the prize. Previous winners of the Rolf Becker Prize are not eligible to apply a second time.

Application process:

Applications may be submitted in digital form to theResearch Administration, addressed to Dr.Corinna Buschle, at Corinna.Buschle@med.lmu.de, until February 15, 2026.

  • Summary of the publication (1 page)
  • Confirmations and declarations of consent
  • Signatures of all applicants
  • Appendix 1: Publication to be considered for the award
  • Appendix 2: CVs of all applicants
  • Appendix 3: If applicable, written declarations of consent from all non-submitting first authors, co-first authors, and senior authors regarding the application for the award

The entries will be evaluated by the award committee, which was appointed by the Faculty of Medicine on July 16, 2025.

The prize is sponsored by the Rufzeichen Gesundheit! foundation in Baierbrunn. The prize committee may award the prize to more than one applicant. The prize money may be divided among the authors of a single work.
