Rolf Becker Prize

The Medical Faculty of LMU Munich and the Rufzeichen Gesundheit! Foundation in Baierbrunn award the Rolf Becker Prize for the best original work from the previous or current year in the field of experimental or clinical medicine as a result of a research project conducted at LMU.

Call for tenders

The prize is awarded for the best original work from the previous year or the current year in the field of experimental or clinical medicine as the result of a research project from the Medical Faculty of Ludwig Maximilian University in Munich. The work may also have been produced as a collaborative project with other institutions, but the lead responsibility must clearly lie with the submitting member or members of the LMU Munich Medical Faculty. The work must have been published in the previous year or the current year (date of print publication from January 1 of the previous year) or currently accepted for publication; it may only be submitted once for consideration.

Frequency and endowment:

The prize is endowed with €50,000 and is awarded annually.

Target group:

Applications may be submitted by first, equal second, and/or senior authors. These will be awarded the Rolf Becker Prize and must be members of LMU Munich at the time of publication and at the time of application for the prize. Previous winners of the Rolf Becker Prize are not eligible to apply a second time.

Application process:

Applications can be submitted directly at . The next call for applications is expected to be in Q1 2026.

The application documents consist of:

  • a brief cover letter
  • the CVs of all submitting authors
  • the publication to be evaluated
  • written consent of all non-submitting first, equal second, and senior authors to the application for the prize
  • a statement that the work has not been submitted for any other prize

The entries will be evaluated by the award committee, which was appointed by the Faculty of Medicine on July 16, 2025.

The prize is sponsored by the Rufzeichen Gesundheit! foundation in Baierbrunn. The prize committee may award the prize to more than one applicant. The prize money may be divided among the authors of a single work.
