The Postdoc Support Fund offers flexible and subject-specific funding for young scientists in the areas of "reconciling science and family life," "mobility/networking," and "open access publications."
As part of its overall strategy LMUexcellent: A New Perspective, LMU is further developing its Academic Career Program, placing particular emphasis on career development for young academics.
The Postdoc Support Fund is aimed at young scientists with a PhD who have completed their doctorate within the last six years.
Exceptions to this rule include parental leave, caring for relatives, or prolonged absence due to illness. As a rule, female researchers are granted two years and male researchers one year per child as an extension of the deadline.
Travel expenses will be provided for inviting experts for international collaborations or for potential recruitment to LMU or LMU Medical Centre. The invited guest may not hold a tenured professorship.
The planned event serves either as scientific further training or prepares participants for a career within or outside the university, or aims to promote networking with other postdocs outside their own institution.
A prerequisite for funding is an active scientific contribution during the event (accepted abstract for poster, presentation, workshop design, etc.). Justified exceptions could include, for example, participating in a meeting without an active contribution after returning from parental leave in order to catch up on the current state of one's own research field.
You can apply for material resources and for the costs of childcare outside of regular childcare to be covered.
The contents of continuing education and training cannot be acquired within the framework of your affiliation with LMU and LMU Hospital. Continuing education and training refers to academic continuing education (postgraduate courses such as MHBA or similar, or completely new training programmes, as well as continuing education within the framework of specialist medical training without academic relevance are excluded from funding).
Applications may be submitted by first authors, co-first authors and/or senior authors. Only peer-reviewed gold open access publications in PubMed-listed journals for which the corresponding author is affiliated with LMU and for which no third-party funding is available are eligible for funding.
In exceptional cases, funding may also be available for doctoral students who are nearing completion of their doctorates.
Submission deadlines in 2025: April 15, August 30, December 15.
A maximum of one personal application may be submitted per application period (either in the category "Open Access Publications" or "Conference Travel" or "Further Education and Training" or "Reconciling Science and Family"). An additional application in the funding lines "International Collaborations and Recruitment" and "Events and Workshops for Postdocs" is still possible.
In the event of multiple applications from the same applicant, the Commission reserves the right to give priority to other applicants in order to ensure better distribution and equal treatment, even if all formal requirements are met.
Applications are submitted via an application portal using your LMU user ID. In some cases, you will need to log in with @lmu.de instead of @med.lmu.de, even if you are a member of the Faculty of Medicine. If you are unable to log in with your LMU user ID, please register for the application portal here.
The application portal will be activated in good time for the next deadline.
