The Way Is Clear for the Construction of the New LMU Hospital in Großhadern

On June 23, 2026, the cabinet approved the first construction phase for the LMU Großhadern Hospital: 69,000 square meters, 600 beds, and approximately 2.2 billion euros. A general contractor will oversee the project.
"We would like to thank the Budget Committee of the Bavarian State Parliament for approving the funding yesterday for the construction of the first phase in Großhadern," said Prof. Dr. Markus M. Lerch, Medical Director and Chairman of the Board of LMU Medical Center Munich.
“This clears the final hurdle for the implementation of this long-standing plan. The first phase will involve the construction of a cardiopulmonary and vascular center, an oncology center, and a diagnostic center. For the Free State of Bavaria, this is a key component of its ‘Hightech and Highmed’ agenda, which is being driven by the State Ministry of Science and the Arts. The new facility will ensure that the future of cutting-edge medicine in Munich is secure and resilient in the face of crises.”
