The Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Prof. Dr. Thomas Gudermann, presented the certificate at a ceremony at the Institute of Forensic Medicine in Munich. The central focus of the expanded collaboration will be current public health issues, which are becoming increasingly important. A cooperation agreement between the LMU and the GSR has been in place since 2023. The subject "Public Health" has since been included in the curriculum of the Faculty of Medicine. Medical students can attend courses at the GSR and complete both clinical traineeships and the freely selectable section of their practical year there.
Health Officer Beatrix Zurek: "I would like to congratulate Prof. Dr. Sabine Gleich on her appointment and am delighted that the Health Department will be able to further expand its role as a research health department through this bridge professorship. Our good cooperation with the LMU is of great importance in order to gain scientifically sound findings on current public health challenges and put them into practice."
The newly established bridge professorship further strengthens the long-standing cooperation between the Department of Health and the LMU. Prof. Dr. Sabine Gleich habilitated at the Institute of Forensic Medicine. Her professorship is based at the Chairs of Forensic Medicine (Prof. Dr. Matthias Graw) and Public Health and Health Services Research (Prof. Dr. Eva Rehfuess).
Numerous joint research projects have been carried out over the last 10 years, most recently the first nationwide study on assisted suicide. There is also close cooperation with the Chair of Public Health and Health Services Research: in addition to established joint courses for medical students, new teaching formats such as summer schools are now also being developed. As part of the Germany-wide network of research health offices, current topics are being jointly researched.
