Habemus doctores

On November 21, 2024, a graduation ceremony took place in the historic Friedrich von Gärtner Hall of the LMU Klinikum to honor the graduates of the Philosophical Doctor in Medical Research, Doctor in Human Biology, Doctor in Natural Sciences, and Master of Science in International Health programs.

In his keynote speech, Prof. em. Dr. Dr. h.c. Maximilian Reiser, former Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Director of the Institute of Radiology, emphasized the vital role of research in advancing modern medicine. He encouraged the graduates to continuously develop their expertise with passion and curiosity.

Dr. Antje Hentrich, Head of the Munich Medical Research School, recognized the exceptional achievements of the graduates and highlighted the diversity of the scientific work produced during their studies. She warmly congratulated the graduates on their successful completion and the professional opportunities that lie ahead.

A particularly memorable moment was the touching speech by Dr. Shaza El Nemr, a newly minted Ph.D. graduate. She vividly described her journey toward earning her doctorate, which began with a “spark of curiosity” and was shaped by intensive lab work, data analysis, and revising scientific manuscripts. She emphasized that the years of study not only brought knowledge but also valuable lessons in resilience, perseverance, and personal growth.

The unique ceremony was musically accompanied by Munich-based pianist and composer Leon Kerner, whose performance created a festive and moving atmosphere.

The emotional highlight of the event was the traditional hat toss of the graduates. This moment of pride and joy symbolized their launch into a promising future and was met with enthusiastic applause from their supervisors, families, and friends.
