On 28th of June, the 13th Dragon Boat Race of the Technischen Universität München (TUM) and the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München (LMU) took place on the Olympic Lake. In an exciting race, the teams competed for the title of "Master of the Olympic Lake".

The BMC was once again represented with a team, this time in eye-catching rainbow colours and under the team name "Rainbowt". We scored a victory in the very first race. A total of 22 boats took part, with the LMU teams including the BMC, the Medical Student Council, the Graduate School of Systemic Neurosciences, the School of Computation, Information & Technology, the Department of Veterinary Anatomy and the Department of Dermatology. This year, however, the victory for the fastest boat went to TUM.

Despite all the sporting ambition, the focus was once again on having fun. Sunny weather, a DJ, fireworks and lots of spectators ensured a great atmosphere. As well as the fastest boats, prizes were also awarded to the most original teams, with creative costumes and team names.

General practitioner Dr Lothar Schmittdiel studied at LMU and brought the idea back with him from his practical year in England. The universities of Oxford and Cambridge have been competing against each other there since 1829. Inspired by this "Boat Race", this dragon boat race has become a permanent fixture in the calendar of Munich's universities.

Team BMC is already looking forward to the 2025 race!
