The German José Carreras Leukemia Foundation and the German Society for Hematology and Medical Oncology (DGHO) award the José Carreras-DGHO doctoral scholarships to up to 20 doctoral students in the field of leukemia and related blood diseases.

Since 2013, the German José Carreras Leukemia Foundation and the German Society for Hematology and Medical Oncology (DGHO) have been awarding José Carreras-DGHO doctoral scholarships for up to twenty doctoral students in order to create better conditions for students of human medicine and related subjects to complete their doctorates in the field of leukemia and related blood diseases. Together with the Society for Pediatric Oncology and Haematology (GPOH), ten doctoral scholarships have also been awarded in the field of pediatric and adolescent medicine since 2016.

Doctoral students are supported with 1,000 euros per month via the 12,000 euro doctoral scholarships. An additional 400 euros can also be applied for to cover travel expenses directly related to the project. The maximum funding period is twelve months.

Applications for the José Carreras-DGHO doctoral scholarship can be submitted until January 15 and June 30 of each year.

The application deadline for the José Carreras-GPOH doctoral scholarship is November 30th.
