In order to support doctoral students in human medicine and dentistry at the LMU during their full-time research, the faculty offers the opportunity to apply for an 8-month doctoral scholarship.

The doctoral scholarship of the Faculty of Medicine

To support doctoral candidates in human medicine and dentistry at the LMU during their full-time research, the faculty offers the opportunity to apply for an 8-month doctoral scholarship.

You must meet all the following requirements to be eligible to apply:

  1. You must have registered your doctoral project to obtain a Dr. med. or Dr. med. dent. in accordance with the doctoral regulations for human and dental medicine, human biology dated 27.09.2018.
  2. You have not yet passed your 2nd state examination or have not yet completed your studies.
  3. You are completing 8 months of full-time research in one go.
  4. You will not receive any remuneration for your research work.
  5. The data collection takes place at an institution of the Faculty of Medicine or the LMU Hospital.

  • All doctoral candidates of the LMU Faculty of Medicine who have registered their doctoral project to obtain a Dr. med. or Dr. med. dent. in accordance with the doctoral regulations for human and dental medicine, human biology of 27.09.2018 are eligible to apply.
  • Doctoral candidates who are or have already been funded by programs of the LMU Faculty of Medicine (e.g. FöFoLe) are not eligible to apply.

  • Maximum € 500 per month for a period of eight months

  • During the doctoral scholarship, the doctoral candidate must be engaged in full-time research and concentrate fully on the respective research project.
  • If access to the infrastructure at the LMU Hospital and appropriate insurance is required, the Human Resources Department will issue a work shadowing permit.
  • Contracts as student or research assistants can run in parallel if they do not exceed a maximum of 10 hours per week and there is a clear temporal and spatial distinction between the doctoral scholarship and the assistantship, i.e. the assistantship ideally takes place in a different department/institute/clinic than the doctoral scholarship. If you are unsure about this regulation, please contact your responsible contact person in the Human Resources Department before submitting your application.
  • The application to receive the scholarship must be submitted to the doctoral office at least two weeks before the start of the full-time research. Retroactive applications are not permitted.
  • The signed target agreement is a prerequisite for processing
  • In order to be eligible to apply, a doctoral project for the acquisition of the Dr. med. or Dr. med. dent. must be successfully registered in accordance with the study regulations for human and dental medicine, human biology dated 27.09.2018. Applications submitted without successful registration of a doctoral project will not be considered and will not be stored.
  • The data collection must take place at an institution of the Medical Faculty or the LMU hospital.

  • The fellowship application (PDF, 6,216 KB) must be submitted in duplicate (2 signed originals) to the doctoral office.
