The evaluation of your dissertation (for theses registered before September 30, 2018)

  • The doctoral supervisor prepares the first evaluation of the dissertation, also known as the Votum informativum. The Votum Informativum can be handed to the doctoral candidate by the supervisor in a sealed envelope so that it can be submitted to the doctoral office together with the dissertation. The votum informativum can also be sent directly to the doctoral office by the doctoral supervisor.
  • The Doctoral Committee selects the reviewers for each dissertation
  • The number of reviewers depends on the grade given in the Votum Imformativum
  • All reviewers receive the dissertation one after the other
  • The deadline for preparing a review is 4 weeks
  • Additional reviewers: depending on the evaluation, or in the event of differences in grades, the doctoral committee assigns additional reviews or comments.
  • If the dissertation is rejected by at least one review, the doctoral committee decides whether to reject or accept the dissertation
  • The dissertation may be returned once by the doctoral committee for a revision.

Review period

The review process usually takes 6 - 8 months. We ask for your understanding that the review period may take longer depending on the reviewers.
We will inform you as soon as the assessment has been completed. Unfortunately, we are unable to answer any queries regarding the status of the procedure due to limited capacity.
