Anna Hirsch is a philosopher, medical ethicist, and clinical ethics consultant. In her PhD thesis "Autonomy and well-being. A philosophical investigation of their relationship in patient care" she investigated whether a differentiated examination of the concepts of autonomy and well-being can contribute to a better understanding and handling of medical ethical conflicts between obligations of autonomy and beneficence in patient care. In her current research and teaching, Anna engages with various ethical issues and challenges in the context of medicine and patient care, with a particular focus on paediatric ethics, well-being, and enhancement. She is the principal investigator on the DFG project, “Children first” – Balancing conflicting interests and ethical obligations in paediatric decision-making, and leads another research project that examines ethical issues in the context of childhood obesity. Additionally, Anna promotes early-career researchers as a member of the coordination team of the Young Medical Ethics Network, a forum of the AEM.
