Professor Christian Haass has received an Honorary Doctorate from the University of Eastern Finland.

Professor Christian Haass, of Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich and the German Center for Neurodegenerative Diseases (DZNE), has been awarded an honorary doctorate in medicine by the University of Eastern Finland. This prestigious honour was presented during the university's 6th Doctoral Conferment Ceremony, held in Kuopio from 5 to 7 June 2025.
Professor Haass is internationally recognised for his pioneering research into Alzheimer’s disease. His work spans multiple levels of neuroscience, including molecular, cellular, and systems-level investigations, as well as research into frontotemporal dementia.
The honorary doctorate, representing the highest recognition that the university can offer, was awarded by the Faculty of Health Sciences in acknowledgement of Professor Haass’s significant scientific contributions. He has also been actively engaged in ongoing collaborations with the neuroscience research community at the University of Eastern Finland.
In total, 15 individuals from a variety of scientific and societal backgrounds were honoured during the ceremony.
