27 May 2026

Two researchers at the Biomedical Center (BMC) have been awarded funding through the first funding round of the M1 – Munich Medicine Alliance’s programme.

In its inaugural funding round “Innovations for Patients”, M1 selected seven projects across Munich’s leading biomedical institutions.

Magdalena Götz, together with colleagues from Helmholtz Munich and LMU, received funding for the project “Neuronal repair in cerebrovascular disease – from transplantation to non-invasive approaches by immune cell reprogramming.” As one of four flagship projects selected by M1, it receives funding of €1.61 million.

Rodrigo Villaseñor, in collaboration with a colleague from TUM, was awarded funding for the project “DECODE: Detecting and Decoding Residual Disease in PDAC via Tumor Organoid-Informed, Machine-Learning-Driven Cell-Free Nucleosome Profiling.” The project is one of three funded translational groups, which focus on patient-oriented research, biomarker development and the preparation of future clinical studies.
