For several years, the BMC has been participating in this popular race between Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München (LMU) and Technischen Universität München (TUM) with its own team. This year, the team competed under the name “BMC Dragons”, continuing this tradition.

A total of 24 teams from faculties, institutes and facilities of the two Munich universities competed against each other – with twelve boats representing LMU and twelve representing TUM. On the 250-metre course, perfect coordination was essential: only teams that paddled in unison and gave their all until the finish line were able to prevail against the competition.

The Dragon Boat Race once again provided an opportunity to connect beyond faculty and institutional boundaries. Several LMU teams took part with creative team names, including the Medical Students’ Association with “LMUuuuh”, the Department of Dermatology with “Haut rein – DERMAßen gut”, and General Practice with “Minion Division”.

This year’s overall victory went to the LMU team “CALA Lagerfeld” (Centre for Advanced Laser Applications, Faculty of Physics). The team not only won the main race, earning the title “Master of the Olympic Lake”, but also impressed the jury with the most original costume. This year also saw the introduction of a new race featuring the university executive boards and university libraries.

We are already looking forward to the next Dragon Boat Race!
